Santa Barbara County bicycling
- Central
Coast Cycling. Rick Sweet has put online a number of rides that
you can take in the northern part of Santa Barbara County. They are
grouped as road rides, pleasure rides and mountain bike rides.
- Commuter
Bicycles. Commute bikes from Fuji, Incline, Van Dessel, Merida
and Xtacycle. Accessories from Planet Bike.
- Echelon
Santa Barbara. This road racing club has weekend rides, sponsors
local criterium races, and has its own Junior program for young cyclists.
- FasTrack
Bicycles. Bike shop in Santa Barbara. Sells road bikes and offers
personal and professional service.
- Goleta
Valley Cycling Club. Local bicycling club has friendly people,
nice rides from beginner to advanced, mostly road rides. Based in
the Santa Barbara area, but offers rides all over the County. Bicycling

Coalition. This group is countering efforts to exclude or limit
mountain bikers and unicyclists from South Coast trails.

Air Bicycles. Santa Barbara shop sells Trek and Schwinn bicycles,

- Pedal
& Paddle of Santa Barbara. Bike and kayak excursions are offered
on an individual basis to individuals or groups in and around Santa
Barbara County.
- Santa
Barbara Adventure Company. They arrange bike trips that get you
close to nature and away from crowds. Guided biking, kayaking, hiking
trips, plus excursions to the Channel Islands or wineries, for one
or several days are possible.

Barbara BMX. Local BMX action on its own track in Santa Barbara.

- Santa
Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers. This is a group of trail
advocates who are dedicated to maintaining trails for everyone's enjoyment.
Many also enjoy riding mountain bikes. They encourage respect for
all trail users and perform hundreds of hours of free maintenance
each year.
- Santa
Barbara Triathlon Club. The Club is for multisport athletes of
all abilities. Whether the goal is a first sprint triathlon or the
Hawaii Ironman, they train, race, offer encouragement, and have fun.

Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours. Choose tours from half day
to a full week of cycling with support vehicle, Specialized road bikes,

Bicycle Club. Racing and riding club around Santa Maria.

Fastrack/BDC. Team Fastrack/BDC is a group of 35 cyclists from
the Santa Barbara area who compete in local and regional races.

of Santa Maria and surounding central coast area.

California bicycling advocacy organizations
- Bay
Area Bicycle Coalition. Group helping to assure that bicycling
is part of an integrated transportation plan throughout the San Francisco
Bay Area.
- Bicycle Commuter Coalition
of the Inland Empire. They promote more bicycling as an alternative
to the automobile for transportation.
- Bicycle-Friendly
Berkeley Coalition. Centered around the University of California
campus, this group involves city and school bicyclists. Innovative
rides and public demonstrations.
- Bicycle
Trails Council of Marin. Founded in 1987, the BTC promotes safe
and responsible mountain biking in Marin County.
- Bicycle
Trails Council of the East Bay. They are educating cyclists in
responsible mountain biking, advocating appropriate access to trails,
and promoting a united trails community where all users can happily
coexist in open spaces.
- Bike
Alameda. Home for the bicycling community in Alameda in the Bay
Area.
- Bike
Bakersfield. Bicycling advocacy in the city of Bakersfield in
the Central Valley.
- Bikestations.
The Long Beach, California, Bikestation was America's first commuter
bike station, designed to encourage bicycle commuting as an integral
part of the transportation network. It features a secure, guarded
bike storage area, bike rental, changing rooms, bike repair, and
a coffee shop. Since Long Beach, other Bikestations have started
in Seattle, Berkeley, Palo Alto, San Francisco, and Santa Barbara.
- CABO.
The California Association of Bicycling Organizations has been working
with California bike clubs and governmental jurisdictions for decades
to improve bicycling conditions.
- California
Bicycle Coalition. Statewide bicycling advocacy organization's
home page has information about vehicle codes and legislation, bicycle
commuting, road conditions, the California Bike Commute, Walk/Bike
California conferences, and more.
- Cyclists
Inciting Change Thru Live Exchange (CICLE). This Los Angeles group
is out to get more people bicycling. Their site is loaded with practival
information plus listings of bike events.
- Concerned
Off-Road Bicyclists Association. CORBA has represented the interests
of mountain bikers in the Santa Monica Mountains since 1987. They
perform trail building and maintenance, sponsor Youth Adventures,
and hold mountain biking skills classes.
- Cycle
Santa Monica. A regional group working with the Los Angeles Bicycle
Coalition got bike racks on local buses and is working on other improvements.
- East
Bay Bicycle Coalition. Bicycling activity along the eastern shores
of San Francisco Bay.
- Humboldt Bay Bicycle
Commuters Association. They improve and encourage bicycl ecommuting
in the Humboldt Bay region.
- Los
Angeles County Bicycle Coalition. Working with the entire sprawling
Los Angeles area, this group is making a difference for bicyclists.
- Marin
County Bicycle Coalition. Active group working for bicycle-friendly
Marin County.
- North Orange
County Bicycle Advocacy Coalition. This new group (founded 2007)
is working with city and county governments to improve bicycling conditions
in Fullerton, Anaheim, and other North County locations.
- Peninsula
Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition. A voice for bicyclists and
pedestrians in San Mateo County.
- Responsible
Organized Mountain Pedelers. For the South San Francisco Bay and
Peninsula, ROMP is the main local off-road advocacy group.
- Sacramento
Area Bicycle Advocates. An advocacy group in the state capitol
area. Has a list of California rides and bike clubs.
- San
Diego County Bicycle Coalition. Home page of San Diego's counterpart
to the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition. Lots of information on local
concerns and activities.
- San
Francisco Bicycle Coalition. A large citywide advocacy group working
for better, safer conditions.

County Bicycle Coalition. Our neighbors to the north have an active group working on
the same issues that we are.
- Santa
Cruz Hub for Sustainable Transportation. They promote the use
of feet, bicycles, skateboards, pedicabs and other non-motorized
transportation in the Santa Cruz area.
- Silicon
Valley Bicycle Coalition. South San Francisco Bay communities
are well organized (and very well computerized) to fight for bicyclist
rights.
- Sonoma
County Bicycle Coalition. Advocacy organization that promotes
bicycling as transportation and recreation in Sonoma County.
- South
Valley Bicycle Coalition. This is a new active group in Bakersfield
and Kern County.
US bicycling advocacy organizations
- Adventure
Cycling Association. Formerly "Bikecentennial," Adventure
Cycling continues to promote bicycle touring and continuous routes
throughout the US. Excellent maps are available and rides are offered.
- America
Bikes. This organization worked to obtain a two favorable
reauthorizations of the 1991 federal TEA-21 transportation
act. They strengthened Enhancements, CMAQ, and other bicycle-related
programs, and achieved a national Safe Routes to School program
in the SAFETEA-LU act that will expire in 2009.
- Bicycle
Helmet Safety Institute. Extensive source of information
on bicycle helmets.
- Bikes
Belong Coalition. An organization of bicycle manufacturers
who are lobbying for a bicycle friendly policy in the federal
government. Their mission is to put more people on bikes more
often.
- League
of American Bicyclists. Century-old national organization
protects the rights and promotes the interests of bicyclists;
provides information about bicycling to its members and others.
Site includes information about League events and affiliated clubs.
- National
Center for Bicycling and Walking. A national advocacy group
headquartered in Washington DC, they work closely with Congress
and the US Department of Transportation. Producers of Pro Walk/Pro
Bike conferences. Their web site has an excellent list of other
resources.
- National
Center for Safe Routes to School. This is a US Department of
Transportation clearinghouse for information about the federal
Safe Routes to School program.
- Pro-Bicycle.
Advocacy for cycling issues, including many links to other bicycling
advocacy sites worldwide.
- Rails-to-Trails
Conservancy Group has managed to convert over 10,000 miles
of abandoned railways into public trails. Their interests are
expanding to include all trails (whether from railroads or not)
and urban greenways.
- Thunderhead
Alliance. This is a coalition of bicycling advocacy groups
within the United States. We are one of the founding members.
International bicycling advocacy organizations
- Australian
Bicycle Council. This is the organization responsible for
implementing a national bicycling strategy that has six objectives
covering improvements to cycling in the areas of coordination,
integration, facilities, safety, information and education.
- Cycling
Advocates Network. The voice of cyclists in New Zealand.
- European
Cyclists' Federation. This is the world's largest bicycle advocacy
group, representing some 47 organizations in 29 countries, totaling
nearly 400,000 cyclists.
- Institute
for Transportation & Development Policy. They promote
environmentally sustainable and equitable transportation worldwide.
- International
Mountain Bicycling Association. IMBA is a non-profit, public-supported
organization. The mission of IMBA is to promote mountain bicycling
opportunities that are environmentally and socially responsible.
- Sustrans.
The UK's sustainable transport site. They promote projects that
encourage people to walk, cycle, and use public transport in order
to reduce motor traffic.

Sustainable transportation
- Coalition
for Sustainable Transportation (COAST). This group promotes
travel by bike, foot, train, and bus throughout Santa Barbara
County. They have a fine program promoting safe routes to school
by walking and bicycling.
- International
Bicycle Fund. Nonprofit organization promotes sustainable
transport and international understanding. Major areas of activity
are non-motorized urban planning, economic development, bike safety
education, responsible travel and tourism, and the cross-cultural,
educational bicycle programs.
- Planning
and Conservation League. This California environmental coalition
is targeting better bicycle, pedestrian, and public transit infrastructure
as the top priority during the year 2000.
- Santa
Barbara Car Free. This local site encourages visitors and
residents of the South Coast to leave their cars and explore our
area by foot, bike, bus or any other non-automobile means.
- Sierra
Club on Transportation. The Sierra Club has examined transportation
extensively and advocates alternatives to sprawl-inducing highway
construction.

Transport Policy Institute. Todd Litman's site is dedicated
